Gemstones Hardness Facts




How hard or what is the hardness of a diamond? How would you rate the hardness compare all stones, gemstones or precious gems? This article will try to answer or free up some of common questions about natural genuine gemstones hardness.

Before searching for an answer about the
diamond hardness, lets look at a simple copper penny in comparing to quartz gemstone. Quartz is ten times more harder than a copper penny, but a topaz gemstone is twice as hard as quartz. If you look at a ruby or sapphire, these precious gemstones are known as corundum, which consider an extremely solid gems and they are twice as hard as topaz. And diamond is about four times harder than ruby or sapphire. Another explanation, diamond is five hundred times stronger and harder than your finger nails.
